Who Is Anna Stenberg? is a thoroughly engaging Victorian adventure, and Miss Norman has a gift for atmosphere. The London she describes — full of shadows, strange allegiances, and the particular danger faced by women with neither protector nor resources — recalls the finest Victorian sensation novels.
I found the Viktor sections especially well-handled. The disguise transforms the protagonist in ways that go beyond mere plot convenience — it opens questions about identity, freedom, and the strange liberation that comes from being no one for a time.
The supernatural elements, introduced gradually, are managed with taste. An Amazon reviewer called this “a ‘can’t put down’ read.” I would not disagree.
